Meet: Csikszereda, you’re going to love it!

2 06 2009

Soooo, this is my first blog. I am going to tell -more exactly write- about Csíkszereda, my hometown, some basic information, like position, general characteristics, people around here and of course curiosities. My aim is to attract more and more people to come and visit this town. I won’t pretend that this is the best town in the world, no. I want to introduce it as it is and as I and many other citizens see it: sometimes empty and too small, another time it couldn’t be better :)

Csíkszereda, or as you might find it on maps, Miercurea Ciuc is a pretty little town, in the center of the country as I mentioned it before. Around 40.000 souls live here, however the number was bigger a few years ago. That is where I live together with my family. Though it is the biggest settlement in Hargita County, people living here consider it a huge village because you cannot say a name your parents or relatives would know his or her life story. And this is how gossips born, right? BUT it is not available only here, that’s a fact.

Csíkszereda (“nickname”, Szereda) is pint-sized, but for a foreigner it might be difficult to find a place in here. I consider it as a quiet place; however it is not the same if you come here summertime on a Friday night or on a snowy winter Monday. The town swarms with tourists, especially with Hungarian ones when it is the celebration of Saint Mary at the beginning of summer. Believers can take a rest after the pilgrimage in any local restaurant or pub, though we don’t have fast-food restaurants like KFC or McDonald’s… yet. If someone would like to have a huge party, this is the best place possible because in this region people know how to enjoy life (wink;)

It has, however, the peaceful side too, I would say too peaceful. That is when everybody sits at home watching TV and young just wonder where everybody has gone.

We have wonderful old buildings which need to be renovated, repainted and like this, the main street will look marvelous, hopefully in a short time. The Petőfi Street cannot be crossed by car, it is exclusively for pedestrians. This is the street you can meet anybody you are looking for.

These are those things you must know about Csíkszereda. After this comes the real fun like sports, cultural events and many other things…

To be continued :)
